The “Littles” Model
Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) refers to the implementation of the principles of intensive Applied Behavior Analysis for the purpose of skill acquisition and behavior reduction. EIBI is a type of ABA focused on young children, typically under the age of 5.
We use a combined approach of traditional EIBI, Pivotal Response Training (PRT) and the Early Start Denver Model depending on the individual needs of the child. EIBI focuses on teaching language, communication, play and other functional skills. Early goals tend to focus on attention, imitation, direction following and early play skills. The main goals of treatment are to facilitate development of the children’s communication, play and other functional skills.
Early Intensive Behavioral goals tend to focus on the following:
Attending skills
Imitation skills
Receptive and language skills
Pre-academic skills
Self-help skills
Pivotal Response Training
Pivotal Response Training is a behavioral treatment for autism based on the principles of ABA. PRT is play-based and child initiated.
The goals of this approach include:
The goals of this apprcoach include:
Development of communication and language skills
Increasing positive social behaviors
Relief from disruptive self-stimulatory behaviors
The PRT therapy targets “pivotal” areas of a child’s development instead of working on one specific behavior.
Specific Goals of PRT include:
Motivation
Response to multiple cues
Self-management
Initiation of social interactions
Motivation strategies are an important part of the PRT approach and emphasize the use of natural reinforcement.
Early Start Denver Model
ESDM is an intensive and evidence-based behavior therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This program uses play to build positive and connected relationships. Language, social skills and cognitive development are grown through joint activities and fun. Active parent involvement is essential for the success of ESDM. Research has shown that children exposed to ESDM show significant improvements in IQ, adaptive behavior and a decrease in autism symptoms.
